Yes, it is nice not to have to worry about the dogs while I'm away. But I miss them greeting me when I come home! I'm planning to wait tell I retire to get another pet....unless I rescue a squirrel :squirrel2: :squirrelrun:

our cistern pump died saturday, so today i have to diagnose what is wrong. start with the power, make sure it has some. then i'll likely have to get into the cistern (presently full of 36" of cold water) and disconnect the pump from the piping, pull it out, document what type/model it is, and then order a new one. it's only 2 years old, so it should not have failed already. :issues:

old pump removed from cistern, new pump ordered, should be here in about a week. then have to reverse the whole process and do the wiring. yippee.

and yes, the water in the cistern, 36" deep, is very, very cold. major shrinkage. :balls:

2 years old, was it under warranty?

receipt says we got in August 2014. so almost 3 years now.

it was too big for what we use it for. so down one size this time. a Leader Diverton 1000 should work nicely.

When our last dog died we were going to wait awhile, too. I passed by our groomer's shop and remembered we had an appointment coming up, and stopped in to let her know Taffy had died. She told me she had a dog coming in from a rescue group she donated her services to.

She told me I really needed to see this dog. So when she called me two days later I went over to see her. She was just finishing up grooming her. She was skin and bones, and covered with flea bites. She had been living on the streets and probably would not have survived much longer.

She placed the dog on my lap and she put both her paws around my neck and hugged me and licked me all over my face. We adopted her that afternoon. That was in 2009. She weighed twice as much as when I met her after a few weeks of a good diet. Best dog I've ever had. We think she is about ten years old now.

We were without a dog for two days.:yesnod:

chevy dealer some years ago: our trucks are very dependable.

ok, cool, i'll take that one.

someone selling extended warranties recently: chevy trucks might fail, and are expensive to fix.

mine is fine, i'll save my money and fix it when it needs it.

same discussion applies to other things you buy. manufacturer tells you it's a great product. sales clerk pushes extended warranty at check out.

what is it? is it good or bad? :slap:

Easy money for them to sell extended. How many time does the extended warranty not get used? Not as many as you would think, I'm guessing!

Paid for an extended warranty for my truck. Have had to use it once so far. Glad I had it. Still good for another yr. Appliances - I don't waste my money on extended warranties. But that's me.

general rule of business: if someone is selling something, they are selling it because it is profitable to them.

now, i don't mind someone else making money off me, but i want to get value for my money. to me, extended warranties are overpriced for what they cover.

Here's all you need to know about extended warranties:

I worked at a Sears store in 2000-01. I primarily did sales. I made a low wage and a good commission. The only thing they paid commission on was the sale of extended warranties. I could be fired for not offering the warranty to the customer at the point of sale.

new pump installed in cistern, tested and it works! :dance::hurray:

water was still cold :balls: so i didn't spend too much time in there, got most of the work done topside before doing final connections.

went down one size of pump. works fine, just not as much pressure in the guesthouse, but water comes out of the taps, so that works. :smash:

little pro tip: not all income is treated the same for taxes. you can complain about that, or you can take advantage of that.

i'm not much of a complainer, so i take advantage of that.

a pretty good day.

had a nice pancake and bacon breakfast with Mrs. DAB and Leah (bacon and maple syrup), helped her with some garden chores, watched the F1 race, did final sanding and applied first coat of finish onto a set of turned handles for a pizza cutter and pie server set - presents for my BIL's birthday next month.

we want to redo our back walkway. about 650 SF of existing brick pavers. contacted 3 firms, got one reply so far. that bid?

no....i was thinking more like 5-6k. so we'll discuss this and i may end up re-setting the settled bricks and buying a few more years.

that's more than our stucco project cost for both the house and guesthouse.

way, way too much for the work involved.

unless someone wants to send Mrs. DAB a check for $15,000.

well got a new pvc front yard fence had the wooden one before, also got a new pvc shed had a metal one before, just moved the vert just so fence and shed could be put in, and no bike yet:)

I can still feel my knees when I go up or down stairs, or try kneeling to do some work, but all in all I feel good.....it worries me.:(

......do you have the green monster out yet? or the cruiser? How are the boys doing?......I saw a program on joints and weight lifters and I thought of them....hope they don't have major problems down the line. :ohnoes:

my eldest is still competing, he has won the gold medal here in Long Island, and he has back pain, but hes 23 and o course like everyone his age knows everything:kick::kick:, but hes in insane great shape, so i have no comment:seasix:
