Looks like about 24" diameter and about 4" thick. So that's about 16-20 board feet of material (you have to account for having to start with raw lumber and cut it to the diamond shapes).

Looks like walnut, cherry, maple. Most expensive of those is walnut. About $8-$10/BF. So that's about $200 in raw materials. He'd be a fool to sell that for less than $800.

My lathe is limited to about 11" diameter bowls.
