That's what Fox News just touched on... but they're just touching on lots of things right now. I have lots to do today and I'm just trying to figure out if any of this is going to impact my daily life right now and how. Sounds selfish, but I barely have enough time to worry about the stuff I already have going on...

This is for sure an incredible disaster but here's what's going to happen......In about 18 months or sooner all evidence of this horror will be gone and things will be as they were.
This may tell us something about New Orleans......:)

Good old Fox News. Leave it to them to take a non-story and sensationalize it. Mount Shinmoedake became active in January after 52 years. Does this have anything to do with the earthquake? Who knows? Wouldn't surprise me.
You should also know that Japan sits in the "ring of fire" which is a seismically active arc of mountains and volcanos in the Pacific Ocean, so volcanic activity is not uncommon.
So, no Michelle...I don't think you have to start digging a fallout shelter and saving canned goods just yet.

If you only have 15 minutes to get your news, you won't get an accurate picture anyway regardless of where you get it. However, I think it's a safe assumption that a volcano eruption in Japan isn't going to affect us over here in North Texas.
Unless of course it's directly under the Nikkei Exchange or under the headquarters of Toyota or Sony. Then maybe...

DirecTV channel 352 - it shows all of 'em at the same time.
You can highlight CNN and see what's happening, click MSNBC and see why its caused by Dick Chaney and Sarah Palin, move to Fox and discover that Obama isn't qualified to handle it, but that's not as big a problem as Harry Reid thinking he is, then see on Bloomberg that it's going to cost somebody a fortune.
All news gets spin. Every editorial decision is based on a point of view.

I actually called it Faux (Fr: False) Noise, which is more of a description than an appellation, but that distinction may embody excessive subtlety for you. I do, however, appreciate your suggestion that I acquire an education...being a semiliterate from a single-wide, devoted to brushing his tooth, I had never considered such an endeavor. I shall now try to acquire the rudiments of civilization, such as counting to ten on the fingers of both hands twice in a row and getting the same answer.

Amazing what a few basic core values will do for a culture
Amazing what a few basic core values will do for a culture
Having lived here since 1980, it is a bit more than a core value mindset. It has more to do with a social mindset of dependence on one another, and a better standard of living provided by (unfortunately) high taxes. The better standard is found in little crime based on social stigma and drastic prison sentences in a very regimented prison atmosphere, and this includes a very well supervised “ alien registration system”. Look up the tax codes and understand most Americans would flee this system. Alien residents face a very strict mandatory (face to face) tax payment system with employers giving mandated documentation of payments and money withdrawn for mandatory social security, city and local taxes etc. The mountain of documentation and enforcement are unbelievable.

All that perhaps. I just finished sending some contributions to Convoy for Hope and writing my former associates from my Tokyo office. This event truly breaks my heart; I have spent perhaps 10 weeks in Nippon between 2001 and 2007 and have more than a few friends who live there in Tokyo, Osaka and Kyoto.
IMHO, the culture, ethos and values of the Japanese people are very strong and the nation will survive. My thoughts and prayers are with my friends and all the Japanese people.

the thing that really struck me...he drove a Chevy as the one car in the family....
a VERY polite and completely sweet couple, and obviously well edjemakatud as opposed to our kolledge kidz.....he was WAY smarter than the average man....
