The U.S. National Aeronautic Association has given its approval to 41 world records set by a C-5M Super Galaxy cargo plane in a Sept. 13 flight from Dover Air Force Base, Del.

The roughly 400,000-pound aircraft hauled a 178,000-pound payload and another 75,000 pounds of fuel to an altitude of nearly 40,000 feet in less than 28 minutes.

The flight broke eight “time to climb” records at each of four altitudes — 3,000, 6,000, 9,000, and 12,000 meters — achieved payload records for seven altitudes, broke a record for horizontal flight at the highest altitude, and another for heaviest payload at an altitude of 2,000 meters.

The aeronautic association certified all 41 of the records Oct. 30. The data have now been submitted to the Fédération Aéronautique Internationale for consideration for approval as world records.

I have been on some crazy flight in C-130 and C5 combat landings take offs etc but man that must been a crazy flight!!

I thought about posting that but second thought it. So now, I will gvie my thoughts. The C-5, although a monster, is a PITA to work with from a Port Dawg perspective. It has a crazy ass locking system that's always sticking or breaking, if it kneels the odds are good it'll break, and crews are usually crying about something. I still remember the "John Wayne" crew that came into Balad. I called them that due to the following story.

They first arrived and asked if we got shot at. I told them everyday. So, after we were finished unloading and then loaded them with a few stacks of empty pallets, they peeped out the front steps, and gathered out front of the aircraft. They unfurled their US flag, took a group pic, and then hustled back onto the aircraft. All the while wearing their flak vests while we were dressed only in t-shirts. Phucking pansies.

Saw a ton of those while TDY at Lackland... Pretty impressive to see them to touch and goes all day long!

Totally cool!!! Must have been a helluva flight! I have seen the C-130 that travels with the Blue Angels go vertical and it's impressive!:flag:

I was supposed to go to work on landing gear upgrade design on the C-5, but at the last minute I took another job doing defensive avionics on the B-1B.
