A couple of years ago I replaced the Bose radio/CD player in my Vette with a Kenwood. The KW has a USB input that you can connect an Ipod to. I have an old Ipod classic that works fine doing this. However when I try to connect my Iphone 6S it wont work and I get a message "IPod Error". The instruction manual just says that if you get that message check to make sure the Ipod is running the latest software version. If I cycle through the various sources modes (tuner, CD, Aux, etc) a couple of times it will sometimes start to work but more often than not it wont

The IPod and the Iphone are two different ITunes accounts (long story) so I don't think I can have the music on the phone and the Ipod.

Any ideas?

The iPhones can get funky in their interface with aftermarket head units as well as stock ones.
I think it has to do with where the music files are placed as when you first plug it in, the source does a search for music but only has a limited set of parameters in it's search. Because of this, it doesn't "find" your music files.

You can also try blu tooth to see if that makes any difference.

Best fix would be to use the iPod but therein lies your nightmare. "How do I put both music libraries on one source"
That should be do-able but it's not in my area of expertise.
There are probably a TON of 15 yr old kids that could tell you though.

That is probably your best bet.

truth !

Apple took the universal Bluetooth and USB standards... and placed their own twist on them. They are "mostly" compatible... but not 100% supporting the industry wide standards.

The solutions given - when someone complains - is always to purchase yet another Apple Product/Program/App to solve the slight incompatibility issues.

Meh. 21st Century problems. The cassette tape player in my c-5 still works flawlessly, as does the trunk mounted 12 cd changer.

Have you tried using the USB cable that came with your phone from Apple? Some of the aftermarket USB cables are wonky with the 6-series phones.

Another thing would be to do a reset on your Kenwood receiver. If you remove the faceplate you should find a reset button. Or just follow the reset instructions in your user manual.

And if all else fails, you can also reset your iPhone to factory settings.

Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings

Obviously you'd want to backup your phone using iTunes and then restore your stuff after the reset.

When I sold my C5 I wrote up a very detailed "instruction manual" for the 80-year-old dude who bought it. It was about 6 pages and one section dealt with the stereo and CD changer. Included was the lock code, how to unlock it if you lose battery power, and how to load CDs into the changer. I gave him this, and about a day later my SSD boot drive on my computer died. I didn't lose anything other than some software and operating system which had to be reinstalled, but I'll be damned if I didn't lose that file.

Of course, he loses the printout I gave him and starts calling me asking for stuff that would be there. I tell him to read that printout. He can't find it.

One day I see him and he mentions that the CD changer is broken. I tell him that if it is, he broke it. No, he says, it has never worked. Now I'm a little mad, it's like he's all but accusing me of knowing it was broke when I sold it. I go over to his house, pop the trunk and remove the cartridge. There is exactly one CD in there, at some random location like slot 6, installed upside-down. :banghead:

Yes. I was able to get it to work sporadically (cycle through all the input sources multiple times and then wait a minute or two) with an actual Apple USB cable. Tried two different non Apple cables and neither worked at all

Did some Google searching and it looks like you can combine two different I tunes libraries on one device. Going to look at that this weekend.

Was it a "get 10 hours online free with AOL" CD?
