I was asked a few years ago by a seasonal Kanuck couple to check on their house, sprinklers and plants a few times a month. Two weeks later I was asked by another couple to do the same. I told both elderly couples OK, not really expecting monetary compensation, but somthing at the least.

First year one couple gave us a bottle of wine with about 2 oz in it and a bottle of maple syrup with about one tsp. Second couple gave a full bottle of wine, 50$ gift certificate at Publix, and some rotten fruit.

The gift certificate was a nice gesture and I appreciate that. But damn, cleaning out your fridge and dumping it on me, FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!

I was asked again this year by both couples and kindly tried to refuse. They imposed it was my duty as a young man in the hood to do so, so I finally said NFW. They left in disgust and basically said "You will no longer reap the benefits".

I'm a damn good neighbor, keep my lawn and house tight, but how feckin dare you fecking jackasses mistake kindess for weakness.

But the hospitality from the Toronto team was superb! We all laughed it was just a bunch of horse people and cops (not me) having some fun.
