Rabies shots

Who has had them ? :ack:
I had 14 in the stomach and each one was very painful....as a kid a medium sized dog bit me down my nose and in my mouth !....:willy:
Been bitten a few more times in my life but never needed to get them again....so far.....:eek:

Had to get them about 16 years ago. Bitten by a cat (stray)
The process has improved somewhat. No shots in the stomach anymore.
Initial series is determined by your weight...more you weigh the more you need. Between the initial rabies shot, an antibiotic and tetanus booster shot I think I got stuck 8 or 9 times at the ER. Another single shot 48 hrs later then a couple of days after that repeated for almost 2 weeks.

The first night I got 2 shots in each arm, two in each cheek and 1 or two in thighs. Felt like a pin cushion.

Each individual shot was no worse than a tetanus shot.

No idea how long it is good for though

If I weighed 100 lbs that was the high side bet it was more like 70....but that's what they did in the olden days 14 in the stomach one each night

My younger brother had to get them back in the 70's. Felt sorry for him.

Just wondering what brought that to mind? ....did you get bit again or see a wild dog? :bilmem:

I worry more about the coons and the skunks in the area than the dogs and cats. :willy:

My bite occurred back in PA when we lived there. Out here I am more concerned about raccoons

I did get bit again by neighbors dog,drew blood but no biggie. She is a rescue and protective of her owner. Now I can do anything to her as far as grabbing her face,ears,neck etc. and she loves it..:issues:...all she needed was a taste ..:lol:..so yeah that's what brought it to mind.

Funny thing is when I started to get the shots a police officer would come to the house and take my mother and I to every house that had a registered dog. He would then in true Barney Fife style rest his hand on his gun and say to me....well is this the dog that bit you ??
3 dogs in we came to the house and I saw the dog that bit me but I was afraid the officer was going to shoot him if I said it was.....so I went through the 14 shots... ...The last day shot #14 my father said if I didn't cry I could have anything I wanted......I didn't cry and we went to the toy store and I saw a green wagon way up on a shelf....I pointed and said .."can I have that".......60 years later I still have that green wagon !....True story....
