It will break your ass in maintenance and repair costs. There isn't a single part on those cars that is less than $100.00. Except maybe spark plugs. :leaving:

as a former owner of a German luxo-cruiser, without a warranty, don't do it.
especially without a warranty.

Hmm, talk you out of the car....are you crouching down in the seat with your laptop (so we can't see you in the picture), actually posting wirelessly from the car? If so, you can either open the door and get out, or, since it is a vert, just climb over the door and get out.

If you meant talk you out of buying the car, why?

Are you interested in that model Mercedes? Is it in good shape and a good value for what it is? Will the insurance on it be reasonable? Do you have garage space for it? Will you pay cash for the car without stretching yourself thin? Is this a car you have always wanted to own?

If the answers to these questions are yes, then why not buy it? Sure repairs and maintenance on any Mercedes aren't going to be cheap, but then if you only plan to drive the car a few thousand miles a year and it is in good shape, then that shouldn't be that much of an issue.

Yeah, it's an old '89 560SL.

Looks like about 25K right miles. Not many electronic gremlins and the engines and transmissions are solid.

Just always liked 'em.

That's a far cry from "none" especially for an MB

if it' in that great of shape, you have to ask "why is it being sold?"

Monte, this year-model was right before everybody went computer-crazy.

No major issues with these cars...

We had a 77 450SL. It was my dads, he got it in 1978.......Neece drove it for a couple years. We sold it to my general manager for his wife 2 years ago. The car has 89000 original miles and is perfect. Never really had a problem.....had to replace the rag top once, and fix the hard top that I dropped a unit of boxes on. It was a FANTASTIC car.

You guys would all suck at an AA meeting too, I bet.

I really don't need the durn thing, but it's black on black with no (seemingly) bad habits.

Missing the OEM radio, but it is included.

These things are built like tanks, even with the top down there's no cowl shake, people stop and stare, I love it. Class on 4 wheels, they will become collectors one day, mark my words.

My father owned a 85 380 SL after 30 k He started the car one morning The timing chain jumped a few teeth and busted up the valves and slugs the result was a new motor out of pocket was 10 k. The older SL Benzes were the better cars. Stewy

Have you actually driven it? To me they drive and ride like a rough horse-drawn wagon. The 'back seat' is just a luggage shelf, and a cheap looking one at that.

It's not the fact that they don't have a back seat, it's just that it's so cheap-azz looking.

You probably know the history behind that bodystyle. Prior SL's (I owned a '69 280SL Pagoda) were based on the smaller Benz chassis. The W107 cars (like yours) was based on the S-Class. This meant they were built hell-bent for stout, and set the standard for crash safety, chassis, and brake technology at the time. As a side benefit, they were extremely durable and reliable. Oddly, they were also better looking than their larger siblings- not always the case when you shorten a really big car and turn it into a sports car.

As much as I an underwhelmed with Mercedes's new offerings, I love the older ones. In that era, Mercedes was building what was, without question, the best cars in the world- at any price.

Benzes were the real deal back then ! You were really something if you could sell your kids and house to afford one. Now they are just a car. Although I could see myself in an AMG 63. Stewy
