Planning on some Hunting soon...

New production (FN) Winchester Model 70 Featherweight in 25-06. Been wanting to do the Quarterbore thing for a LONG time. These new FN Model 70's are copies of the Pre-64 versions with Controlled Feed Action etc. Scope is a Leupold VX-3 3.5-10x40 with their new Custom Dial System. Rolled up some rounds for it, gonna site it in soon...

Nice!-- Great caliber!:hurray:

Been using since 1975 a 25.06. (Rem BDL) That litle bore has taken a lot of chucks and deer over the years. It was accurate right out of the box, but some handloading and trigger work. and that sporter grade shoots like a target rifle. Has a era correct Redfield Widefield 3x9. Put it on the same day I bought the rifle!

Awesome!

Yeah, the Quarterbored rifles seem to have a religious following. I BADLY wanted a Pre 64 70 in 257 Roberts, but I can't justify the cost...the prices they are fetching are insane.

I was considering a few other rifles, one being a Ruger No.1 in either 7x57 Mauser or finding one in Bob (they made them a few years ago), but reading about hit and miss Accuracy issues with those rifles, I decided against it. Plus I am going to be doing some Hog hunts, and follow up shots are sort of necessary on something that can actually hunt you back. :D

Also was looking at one of the CZ bolt rifles in 6.5 Swede, beautiful rifles, great cartridge, but I just couldn't stop thinking about stuff in .25, as mentioned I have wanted to mess with it for a LONG time. Flat shooting, great bullet selection, good for everything in the lower 48 pretty much...I don't plan on hunting Moose or Grizzly Bear, so I'm good.

I know I made a good choice on this one. 25oughtSix is ballistically superior to 257 Roberts, more case capacity, same selection of bullets, flat shooting and awesome velocity. This is gonna be a good one. I know it's weird, but I already have an emotional attachment to this thing. :)

Just a little shy of the vaunted 257 Weatherby Magnum. You will have fun.

Is that a south Carolina or Connecticut made?

FN Herstal. Parts made in South Carolina apparently, parts shipped to Portugal for assembly. This is something that FN Herstal/Browning has been doing for around 3-5 years with the Model 70's. But they have been doing it for a long time with their other firearms...the Browning Hi-Power for example...

I am more of a .30 caliber guy but that is a pretty piece. I also have wanted a pre 64 for a long time. The last one I had an opportunity to purchase was in .375 H+H, and some numbnuts had installed a tang mounted peep sight. NOT the hot setup for quick followups on a charging rhino; and way too much gun for North American game. Let us know how yours shoots please.

Very nice, congrats on a very fine rifle. Nice (affordable) choice for glass too. :cert:

The only negative I've heard about the .25-06 is it doesn't do well with light bullets. BUT you would have picked a different caliber for light bullets :yesnod:

Enjoy and post up some targets when you get it out.

Very nice!! Was the action glass-bedded? I'd heard somewhere that W (FN side) was bedding actions on some models as an option...

Congratulations... get 'em while you still can... I really started getting into bolt actions during the last federal AW Ban. The way things are going, we're going to be collecting postage stamps or something before long.

Hi Robert. :kimblair:

I know what you mean. And being out here in the lands of fruits and flakes, we are on the fastrack. I'm seriously concerned about the future of this Country. :(
