Rain races are nuts! Monster stones some of these guys have to run in those conditions.

I've run there in the rain. There's no grip anywhere.
I loved when Hornish spun in the brake zone for 4 when he put his left side tires on the paint (come on, Sam...). Dale jarett says "brakes are just no good in this situation. When you attack like that the car just goes around." I laughed so hard. Guy has no idea.
Overall, I thought that the announcers were very good, but I myself, found myself laughing too. It was an absolute joy to watch. We all knew what these guys were up against. The best driver in rain conditions won.

Ehh...it was pretty clear they don't know much about road racing. They would have benefitted from the addition of someone like leigh diffey or calvin fish this weekend and last weekend at the glen.
The driver of the 88 needed a stiff drink and a teddy bear after that race. My favorite moment was gaughan's crew polishing the RF fender during a caution. They looked so lost. I felt like I was watching a regional enduro. "Oh shit, he's coming in! Does anyone know where the impact is?!"
Only a few slowed properly to the conditions and even when they did that, they got punted by the lead foots. How anyone can go out onto an unknown track and drive it in the rain properly is beyond my comprehension. 99% of these guys have never done that so it was trial by fire. It's easy for you to Monday morning quarterback, but like I said, slowing down properly isn't in 99% of those guy's vernacular.

Is that why Heinricy was able to lap the entire field at the 2001 SCCA T-1 Run Offs?
RACE: First eight champions crowned at Valvoline Runoffs (http://www.motorsport.com/scca/news/race-first-eight-champions-crowned-at-valvoline-runoffs/)
Just before the brutish T1 cars took the course for the pace lap, the rains came in hard. The race, which was given the green flag at the start of day's worst shower, meant nothing but problems for the monstrous machines. Incident after incident shrunk the field throughout the event. But this one was over before it started if you can believe it. Someone must have forgotten to tell John Heinricy about the adverse conditions. Piloting his C5 Chevrolet Corvette, Heinricy checked-out early, extending to over 10 car lengths on the opening lap. When it was all said and done, Heinricy went on to lap the entire field in the downpour for his first National Championship in T1.
"This was an awesome car today," said Heinricy. "The car was set up just right for the wet. I got the lead at the start by going into the first turn deeper than [Bobby] Archer. I got a good rhythm going, and even when I had a big lead I did not want to back off for fear of getting out of the rhythm."

John Heinricy is a class act. He has shown me lines at VIR that I didn't know existed. He even helped me troubleshoot an oiling problem in my Z06.

:iagree:
John is a nice guy ( well maybe not when you're racing against him but he "plays fair" ). I had the pleasure of meeting him and helping with his car numerous times helping Kurt when he was with Phoenix Performance.

We (our group) still uses Kurt at County Corvettes. He is the man for setting up a track car.

It amazes me that they don't. Every other form of auto, road and oval, racing run in the rain. Why can't they?

That and John is a phenomenal driver. He can both setup a car and drive it to its limit. They don't show him much but he was using the wet line.

Now that I look at it, I remember being garaged next to that red corvette at the Glen back in 2001.
Kurt used to be his crew chief at Phoenix. At one of the qualifying races, John is battling for first place and gets Kurt on radio. He explains to Kurt how much of a toe change he wants for the next race. He figured out screw pitch and how much of a turn o the tie rods it would require to get what he wanted. ( keep in mind he figured this out while racing for position  )
