Just need to navigate and have some trail and error. You can store your specific car in their garage to find exact parts for it.As for getting an alternator I take mine out and get it rebuilt by a local guy.

Not 100% positive, but I am pretty sure buying parts at a parts store is cheaper than having four trucks.

Well, I have 1 small SWB truck i use when I know im going to have to navigate my trailer in tight quarters, its just easier, but It has virtually no payload capacity/towing capacity...

So I got a LWB 3500, it tows like a muddafukka...but gets shit economy...

So i got a 2500 diesel...gets better economy....

The dually...no excuses...Its just a big bad motherf*cker, and it was dirt cheap to buy, I couldnt say no.

Im only paying about 120 a month to insure all of them...the diesel is full coverage.

4 is just the right number. Years ago, I had 1 truck...and it broke, I had no way to get to the store to get parts without burdoning someone to take me, Ill never do that again.

I have an AutoZone around the corner. I usually GoJo my hands, order the part for pickup, and by the time I clean up enough and drive there, it's pulled and I am out in minutes.

Some items I do order on line. Some odd ball stuff, like my window regulators and hard to find parts.

I refuse to deal with counter people anymore. I think most ended up there because they kept overcooking the burgers.

Nothing like going in to buy a tail light and they want to know what size engine you have and if it is an automatic.

Went to Autozone last month sometime for an oil pan gasket for the race car.

Me: I need an oil pan gasket for an LS1
Counter guy: What kind of car?
Me: Doesn't matter, use anything with an LS1
Counter guy: Ok, what kind of car is it for?
Me: 2003 Howe ASA stock car. It's for a race car, nothing in your computer.
Counter guy: {stupid look} {blank stare}
Me: OK, just type in 2000 Camaro
Counter guy: V8 or V6?
Me: {Pause} V8
Counter guy: Manual or automatic transmission?

10 minutes later he came back with a box that was nowhere near the right size. Upon further investigation, in big letters, right next to the part number that he had to have looked at, it said "3.8 V6" right on the label.

...and then argued with me when I said it wasn't right. Sirius.

Yeah, you need to pick a car ahead of time when you dealing with race car/custom stuff.

In my experience, that's the difference between NAPA and the rest.

I call NAPA and say I need an oil pan gasket for an LS1, it shows up at the shop in 10 minutes. Autozone, O'Really, Advance, etc... you have to walk them through the computer.

NAPA was closed when I was looking and I forgot who I was dealing with when I went in.

We had a NAPA but it closed. After going through two of their "gold" starters in my F250, I bought one on Amazon at a 1/3 of the price and so far, so good.
They did have really cheap C5 rotors though. I bought two sets as spares before they closed.

You think the others are different?

What is NAPA supposed to QC? They aren't a manufacturer. They are a distributor. "NAPA" doesn't make anything. Neither do any of the others for that matter. There isn't a NAPA factory putting out filters, rotors, and starters. They all source from other suppliers and manufacturers.

Exactly, that's why I use AC/Delco parts as much as possible on my G.M. cars and still use Toyota parts on the FJ40 or get my factory parts rebuilt when I can. After that I will use Wix,Denso,Wagner,Gates...etc I can be very picky but its my money and time going into these purchases.

Damn funny. Here's why.

I just got back from going to Autozone for my dad.

I need plug wires for a 95 K1500 5.7 4WD

99?

No, 95

K3500?

No K1500

5.0 liter ?

No, 5.7

She got EVERY SINGLE detail incorrect.

I failed to follow my own protocol.

Just copy and paste the part # you find elsewhere on line or where ever into amazons search bar and the part usually shows up

Grab the GM part number & search Amazon
or
Go to the manufacturer site and pull up their number, then search on amazon

Just ordered a water pump, pulleys, & hoses for the C5

Checked Auto Parts, Car Parts, GM Parts, Aftermarket Auto Parts | ACDelco , Powering Progress? in belts, hose & hydraulics, and Goodyear ( Goodyear Engineered Product Online Parts Catalog )

put those parts into Amazon, picked the ones with the best prices. 2 days later they're at my door.

~sigh~

Fedex delivered my radiator about 10 minutes ago...box was beat up, I started opening it, driver drove off...radiator is badly damaged, 1 tank is crushed, and damage to the core itself...

Not rocks fault...Fedex are dicks, they destroyed 3 new fenders trying to deliver them last time...

How was it packaged? I just bought a new PRC radiator for the race car. You could have run that mofo over with a truck and not hurt what was inside.
