Last year, I got one of those "post deleted with a warning" because my post was "unnecessary". I pm'd the mod back, and asked what rule I broke posting something that was "unnecessary", saying that in OT it is arguable that EVERY post is "unnecessary"? It didn't go well for me.

Just more evidence that the mods there don't have any rules at all. They just do whatever the **** they want, and management doesn't care.

They like the rules being open to interpretation.
There used to be a thread with a long list of "rules" and I think they got rid of that because it gave people too much room to complain.

Easier to have unwritten rules that they can use at a whim.

Here is what cumdog posted as a sticky about the CFOT rules along with a link to all the rules.

Community members must be signed in to view and post in the Off Topic section. The rules in CFOT are not that divergent from those that apply across the site. These house rules are specific to CFOT and are provided here for clarity. The rules applicable across the site can be reviewed at the link below:

Posting political content (discussions, posts, etc.) is prohibited. Such content will either be moved to P&R for discussion (in the case of a thread) or deleted. Repeated instances of posting political content in CFOT will be met with sanctions and jeopardize a member's posting privileges. The rule prohibiting posting political content outside of the P&R sub-forum is a site-wide rule and includes CFOT.

Many members who post in CFOT are longtime members of the site and also post in P&R. Moderators are advised to issue warnings or infractions and close/delete political threads and posts. Moving political threads to P&R is no longer an automatic first resort, especially if a member repeatedly posts political content in CFOT, which is considered defiance of moderation and can jeopardize a member’s posting privileges.

Discussion of other cars on CFOT is allowed as long as the following three ground rules are followed.
Don't let the discussion get political.
Don't let it get personal. We allow a certain level of ball-breaking here, but don't push the limits on that and cross the fine line between jocular ball-breaking and personal insults.
Don't derail other car discussions in CFOT with over-zealous defense or detraction of marques and vehicle types. EV discussions tend to get political, contentious, and/or personal, so please be mindful.
We recognize the importance to CFOT regulars to discuss other cars here rather than in the Other Cars sub-forum because of the members' comfort level and familiarity. As long as the three rules above are adhered to, discussions on other cars in CFOT are allowed.

"Bumping" an old thread may result in that thread being closed. Bumping an old thread intentionally or "taking it to the top" (TTT) is not allowed in P&R and CFOT, and doing so may result in sanctions that can jeopardize a member's posting privileges.

There's conversation over at the N.Crs, about how so many of the best CF posters have left and how diminished the site has evolved. Also, how little knowledge the new experts there have.They are contemplating joining forces or should I say making a larger presence on the CF, to attempt to boost their membership.

Gasping for air, imo. Truth is, both have seen their highs, never will the volume of traffic return. It was great, learned a lot, but it's in the past, we all enjoyed them.

There's no saving, these sinking ships.
