Default Window Air Conditioner Question.

I get a lot of water in the front that ends up overflowing onto the windowsill. It collects right behind the filter in the front. There is now for it to drain out the back. Where does the water come from and why does it do it? 2 other window units in the house don't do it. How do I fix it? It's the newest one too.

Is it leveled correctly? Just "put in the window" leads to water pooling problems.

Unit should have a little tilt to the back to drain.

It has a little tilt but the front is sealed off from the outside.

And no drain holes in the back. I had to drill a couple cause water fills that area too.

There is no drain hole on the rear of the unit?

Both Larry and I said the same thing. Usually the sheetmetal is level which places a slight angle of the internals to properly drain.

If there is a clog or the incorrect slope, it won't drain.

Not ONLY the above, but most modern units depend on the pan to be used to cool the outer heat coils.....but the theory is not worth shit, there is always more condensate than the unit can blow off over the hot outside coils....

it's an EPA crap thing.....what you have to do is angle the thing so the water/pan tilts outside and drips out there, then to take a drill or cutter and put some slots/holes in the pan along the outer drip edge...for the water to drop out......but be VERY CAREFUL you DO NOT HIT THOSE CONDENSER COILS or you got another unit to buy.....

I had to drill a couple in it. It's a cheap wal mart product.

Kerry, there is a provision by the manufacturer for the condensate to drain. If you're having to drill extra holes in the unit, it wasn't installed properly.

You need to shorten the 2x4 that is holding up the back end of it.
