Direct TV / AT&T Package

I did it. I switched to Direct TV and AT&T Cellular


Direct TV will cost Under $70 for 4 TV's, same tier as Dish, which cost $109.00.

I get phone reception in my house and Liz gets it at work now, where before, T-Mobile didn't work. That's a plus.
AT&T gave us a free I-Phone 7 for our daughter and we're keeping our same phones, (Liz and I).
For 3GB each, It'll be less than the $128.00/ mo that I'm paying with T-Mobile.

In summary, Ill be paying $45 less a month for TV and phones, + a free I-Phone, + a $250.00 Amex gift card.

QUESTION ???

Data is unlimited, however, after 3GB of data is used, it will slow down.
My daughter and I use less than 3GB, but Liz streams Amazon music in the car and may go over. How will slowed down data affect Liz???

So far, I'm liking this deal.

One thing to watch out for with Direct TV - if they gave you any premium channels for free for three months with your deal, you are responsible for calling them and cancelling those channels at the end of three months, or they will just add them to your bill. Our installer warned us about this and I marked it on the calendar so I would not forget.

Ya, I have it marked on my calender to get rid of HBO, Showtime, Starz, Cinemax, and The NFL Ticket a few days prior to the free time running out.

She won't have any problem streaming music at the lower data rate, music streaming really doesn't use all that much data. Video streaming OTOH...

I've been doing this deal ever since AT&T bought DTV, because I already had both. They just said "Hey, guess what?"

A guy I golf with works for AT&T in their land line division (yes, he knows it's going away soon but he'll be retired by then) and he gets free DirecTV with all packages turned on.

This package has intrigued me as I already have DTV and would like to get unlimited data.

Is there a way to estimate how much data is used for video streaming? I have no idea how much data we will need. What is the effect of retarded data? I assume lots of buffering delays?

Most of the time you want to stream video, you'll be able to do it over wifi. Video streaming varies widely depending on the type of compression and data rate/quality. I've never been throttled AFAIK. Just checked my iPhone 5s which I've had for about 4.5 years and I've used a total of 23.4 GB of cellular data, iPad 3 that I've had even longer, just 3.8 GB.

If all your streaming will be done over cellular data, you'll need to keep tabs on it pretty closely. I streamed music from I Heart Radio for a couple of years on my iPhone every time I played golf, which was a lot, and still used way less than 23 GB. But video adds up pretty quickly, probably 30 hours of rather poor quality streaming or so will put you over your 3 GB limit.
