Good morning Wendy! .....off to work I assume, to keep those birds in the air.
How many more years are you going to work before you retire? Now.....to catch the dentist right when he gets in to see if he can squeeze me in early..... One good thing is I think I lost weight over the weekend from not eating too much of anything. |

Just got up a while ago. Went to the football game, rivalry between Hamilton and Toronto, called the Labor Day Classic, last night, always come home and watch the game again recorded, so was up pretty late. We won again, but we were way behind in the first half, but kick some ass in the second, to win it again.

Here's a few pics I took of mine
You'll note the downspouts are just pvc. Gutter is just standard issue cheap gutter that has a gutter grid on top of it. Rattle-canned the whole thing olive drab. Paint scratches real easy off the pvc and gutter, but its just there to tone down all that white. The down spout in this pic feeds a pipe underneath the deck that joins up with the other downspout. The join of the two downspouts. The first flush resevoir The weep hole in the first flush resevoir. and the resevoir mounted. Not shown is the charcoal filter after the resevoir. It's just a two foot section of pipe that is filled with carcoal. The charcoal is held in place with left over gutter grid that I cut in a circle and fits perfectly in the pipe coupling. The charcoal is jus charcoal that I broke down into pellet to marble sized bits. Still have to build a rack for the barrels and mount them. Got the manifold for those cut and fitted as well. Nothing is glued yet. I do have a screw here or there, but I may rearrange everything a time or two before I'm done. |

our rainwater collection systems:
two 2500 gal tanks at the shop: close up of the front tank at the shop. each tank has a submersible pump that connects to the yard hydrant nearby. and tank behind the guesthouse, 3000 gal, it's just a gravity feed via hose to the house and garden areas. getting new inlet filter baskets today. the cheap ones that came with the shop tanks had their mesh (plastic) blown out yesterday with the heavy rain and hail. new ones have metal mesh. we use about 450 gallons a week in the house. we transfer rainwater to the 450 gal day tank, which is then pumped thru a UV light and a carbon filter before coming out the tap. rule of thumb is 4 gallons of storage capacity for each square foot of roof area that is collected. |

Our well crapped out a few years ago, so now we have to haul water. It costs us about 5 cents/gallon when you figure in the cost of gas. So catching free rain water is awesome. When money is right, I'd love to catch the water from the barn roof. Figure gutters, downspouts, tanks, and pumps would cost us about $15,000.
Water or a well used Corvette? |
