Judging by the apparent piles of what seem to be spent casings, it looks
like a cooker for the disposing of old, questionable/unstable or otherwise unwanted ammo...

There was a gun called a Police Positive, by Colt, and I have some ammo for it, about 50 years old, actually probably more....

it's a short .38 round, so not but 1/2 as powerful......

do wonder about the safety of it though.....

dunno if any was made since that was purchased.....

I paid ten bucks for a case of .303's from the 60s. I knew that they were probably duds, and they were. But the brass and bullets are fine. I've knocked apart and reprimered and loaded a hundred of them so far.

If stored properly, ammunition could be shelf stable for at least 50 years, perhaps much more. I recently shot up a bunch of 45ACP which was minted in 1944... every round fired fine.
