then put a level on the pan bottom overhang to see just what, and then poke a screwdriver into the hole, maybe some packing shit/crud in there....maybe have to pull the unit out and take the top...

Not ONLY the above, but most modern units depend on the pan to be used to cool the outer heat coils.....but the theory is not worth shit, there is always more condensate than the unit can blow off...
