It was a Malibu.

Mid to late 70s. They made a 2-door, a 4-door, a wagon and the el Camino on that platform. Laguna was as close to a "sport" version as they had in those days of 180hp Corvettes.

My best bud in college had one. Black with grabber orange striping and vinyl roof. I loved the way the seats rotated to let peeps in/out and the X-Wing Fighter steering wheel.

Swivel seats were cool, but in today's legal-suit society, they would not fly

The seat could "swivel" in an accident. Heck, I bet a state inspector wouldn't know what to think of those seats. But at least in Florida, there are no more inspections

I dont recall what engine my buddy had in his but we used to joke that when he would stomp on it you could watch the gas gage needle move.

I had a 74 with a 400 cubic inch motor. It was gutless, but a nice car.

I also had one. A '74 with a completely rebuild 454. Never should have sold it. The previous owner dumped a pile of money in it. The interior was also completely redone when he removed the center counsel. It also had swivel bucket seat. He used to run it at a place called North Star Drag strip. Long gone these days. I've got pics around here somewhere.

I tore up the rear end and my uncle and I put a 4:11 in. After THAT, I smoked the transmission and had a new one installed with a manual valve body.

I was a big car, but plenty quick. Tons of low end torque.

You could get them in the Monte Carlo's also.

One of the guys in high school had a 1972 SS 454 Monte. He could never understand why his 454 couldnt beat my '68 427 El Camino. "Mines got a bigger engine and should beat yours"

I had a '76 Monte with the velour interior and swivel buckets. Compared to what my friends were driving, I was riding in luxury.
