Default M1 Garand guys step in!

I finally got my hands on a M1 Garand. I've wanted one for what seems like forever. It is an all matching numbers 1955 Springfield. Beautiful stock and the bore and muzzle have almost zilch for erosion. It is a CMP Greek return and I have all documentation etc. While I'm a CMP member, I couldn't pass this rifle up. It is absolutely fantastic.

If you don't know the correct way to avoid "M1 Thumb", have somebody show you. A minor error in judgement will result in a quick and painful reminder that you screwed up.

No. The returns were essentially leases to other countries that were returned to the US. Some of the Danish returns are very nice and have been rebarreled with the VAR barrels which are essentially match grade and very nice, but no longer matching numbers. All of the stamps, proofs, etc. are great on this one.

I hope to avoid that. I may install a Holbrook device so I can shoot however many rounds I feel like running through without having to load a full clip.

It's $65. They make enbloc clips for 2 , 5 and of course 8 rounds. They also have a single load block too.

That hurts like a mofo.

I did it once when everything was all nice and greased up and my hand slipped just a little bit. Of course, that was the 1 time that the bolt decided to come all the way forward without a nudge.

I didn't want to start another thread, but since you brought it up... I'll post this here.

1942 cutdowns (1 AFH and 1 UFH):

Still not 100% satisfied with the case arrangement (the AFH is in the case):

Thanks again!!!!!!!

No problem. In hindsight I kinda wish I would have ordered a few more. It looks good in the display. Seriously, I'm tickled pink with the rifle. I wonder how many people in the barn own these guns or other war guns. I like history and it makes me feel like I have a handfull of it. Not being able to sit still for long I will eventually get some type of the Springfield M1A. These types of rifles draw me like a moth to a flame!

I know how you feel.

An M1A of some sort is most definitely on the short list of what will be added next.

James, I recognize that gun. My dad got one back in the early 70's. He used it for mainly deer hunting. Last I heard, my brother that also deer hunts has it.

I look at it as an amazing piece of history as well as a tool that defended us against tyrants. The bravest men in the world ran into battle with these rifles ensuring we could at least for a while, enjoy the exact freedoms they were there fighting for. I will shoot this gun,but buying it mostly for collector purposes, I probably won't shoot it much.

We are very fortunate to be a couple of generations behind our forefathers. Hopefully we have listened to them and have held their advice close by
