That's one of the best parts of a Garand... you can shoot the hell out of it and you aren't going to lose much (if any) collector value.

I didn't plan on shooting mine much either but of all the guns I own, it is hands down, without a doubt, the most fun to shoot... and deadly accurate.

Not being able to sit still for long I will eventually get some type of the Springfield M1A. These types of rifles draw me like a moth to a flame!
Uncle Pervey, R.I.P. was very knowledgeable and had a nice collection. Somewhere there is a thread we had going about milsurp rifles.

We are very fortunate to be a couple of generations behind our forefathers. Hopefully we have listened to them and have held their advice close by

Us "Yankees from MA" have a bit of history with this sort of thing.

See, when you do that in MA, you're called a Patriot. When you do that in the Phillipines, you're called an indigenous savage. I'm surprised you whitey's don't get beat up more over there.

That's why, often on the street, we're called Joe Give Me Money Joe, Joe.

Congrats on the purchase! My M1 is probably the most fun to shoot rifle that I own. I made the trip over to the CMP a couple of years ago for my HRA. I'd love to add an IH to the collection as well.

I bought it from a collector here in town. It came from CMP in 2005. Unless he has sold it already, he has a beautiful Danish return one with the VAR barrel in a new CMP stock. Not quite as collectible, but VERY nice.

Very nice! I've been wanting an M1 ever since I recovered my grandad's Arisaka rifle at the farm back in '04.

I have to post more pics... just cuz!

My 1942 Springfield: All correct with the exception of a Type II sight (needs a Type I) and the sling (1945)

Friend's D-Day commemorative Springfield:

The m1903 in the case in the previous post was an original 1906 build with a June 1942 arsenal rebuild. The Garand was a June 1942 original build. Who knows... they might have been on the same ship crossing the ocean at 1 point.

I got my pop one decades ago from an older friend.
My dad use to train with them in the early 50s and said "wish I had one again"
Complete #s matching IH model. Shoots nice

I would like to find one made by Beretta, I think that would be cool

I have to correct myself.

I forgot to mention that as is sits it is not a correct barrel. I have an SA 1949 barrel on it right now but have the correct '42 ready to go on it when it gets retired to collector duty. The '42 barrel doesn't have a whole lot of life left in it.

Not that anybody really gives a damn... I just didn't want to put out anything that was untrue.
