Wet that doesn't drain easy.

Try this: Pick the part of your garden that drains the best. Dig a trench about 12" deep and 24" wide. (Lotsa labor, I know) Put some rich dirt in the trench about 4" deep. When the taters sprout, keep covering them with mulch until the treach is level with the ground. The taters will get nutrients from the good soil you put in, and the taters will form in the mulch. You can try this on a small scale to see if it works.

I just want to share my gardening story with you guys.

When I was younger every weekend my father would make me work in his garden. First cut the grass and then tend to the garden. From the age of 8-16 I would cut the grass on a corner lot that measured 190' by 200 feet deep.
Thank goodness most of the lot was house and his garden so there wasn't much grass except for the front. The garden went all along the perimeter of the fence 8' deep and along one side of the house.

After finishing the grass I was put to work in his garden. Either tilling in the spring or picking green beans and cherry tomatoes in the end of the season. After was all said and done I would get back in the house 6ish.

Being a good Canadian kid street hockey was a way of life. everyday after school for 3-4 hours depending on how much light there was we would play road hockey with the a few kids in the hood. The weekends were for the mini tournaments between neighbourhoods and different areas from around.

Sadly I never got to play in those mini tournaments on the weekends because I was knee dip in shit and top soil.

To this day I will not buy flowers, help pick veggies in my buddies garden and even buy a potted plant. I hate everything that has to do with gardening. My house will be paved with concrete walkways and concrete pads without a lick of grass or a hint of cow manure in sight.

Thank you for letting me share my story on gardening.
As my dad once told me with a a highly sarcastic tone....
"I wish you all the f***ing luck in the world".

And therein lies the difference between being forced to do something and doing it voluntary. Most gardeners do it by choice, so it isn't a chore. Funny thing...I too was made to work in the fields when I was growing up. I was raised on a farm, and I was chopping cotton by the time I was 7. Plus feed the cows and pigs. And run the tractor. My last job was to bush hog all the pastures and the garden. The garden had a dried up pea patch; when the bush hog hit the peas it felt like buckshot hitting my back. I left home after that.

It took me 20 years away from the farm before I planted a garden (I still hate to run a tractor). Now gardening is enjoyable, simply because I don't have to do it. And, as they say, gardening is good for the soul.

Maybe you'll change your mind one day. If no, there are plenty of other hobbies.

Line the bottom with a wire mesh or you'll be growing gopher food.

I indulge the wife and her efforts, we grow 'tater' vines here for the multi colors and garden decoration, last year they tried mighty hard to take over the entire back yard, we had TWO full garbage cans full of the vines last fall....

and up in Maryland, I had a 45' wide 27' deep garage and a all concrete back yard, it was GREAT.....but came time to sell, it was hell, the bitches kept killing it, .....took two years to sell it...

I'll try that, tired of Hot house tomatos from Kroger.

In my greenhouse, I had eggplants the size of baseballs and green peppers quarter sized……..too bad I left the heater off the other week when we had a surprise 18 degree night!
My homegrown from a seed grapefruit tree a foot tall made it though as did some of my herbs & other flowers.....
You can see the greenhouse in the background
