Here
is the information about buying from an online dealer. Note that there are NO AUTHORIZED ONLINE DEALERS for Primos.

Buy it from the dealer.

You can buy your accessories online if you want though. At least pick up the drip pan racks and if you don't want to spring for the D-plates yet, run to Lowes Depot and buy a few fire bricks, preferably the thin ones that are about 3/4" thick. Then you can arrange them as heat shields when you need them. The drip racks are a must though. Also see if they will throw in (or buy) the grate lifter tool. It's really handy. Order yourself a Billy Bar and get a remote probe thermometer. I have this one and use it a lot.

I did not know that buying it online voided the warranty. Is the 20 yr warranty pro-rated?

I'm not 100% sure it will be voided, but I've heard of that happening to some people. The main thing is that Primo won't cover shipping damage for online purchases - it will be up to the e-tailer and YMMV. The single most traumatic thing that will ever happen to your grill is shipping. If you see one that is perfect at the dealer, you can get it home perfect as long as you aren't a total f-tard.

At any rate, that $100 you save may turn into a nightmare if the thing shows up in pieces (it happens...)

Also beware that you will fry your factory gasket at some point. Once you join the Primo forum, look into buying a replacement gasket kit from
this gentleman
. When you fry your gasket, instead of getting a factory replacement that you will just fry again, follow the instructions in that thread and replace it one time and be done. The replacement gasket is like Nomex, it will not burn up. I think he sells it for about $10 or so. You can see my pictures of the replacement I did on page 10.

After the first year, you pay shipping costs for all warranty replacements.

She (Jenny@Primo) didn't mention any prorating.

Ok. Must be why most folks just decide to live with the eventual crack in the ceramic.

Just curious. Can frying the factory gasket be avoided somehow? Is it only when the temp gets up around 750° that it fails?

It happens to the BGE, the Primo, to every ceramic. The gasket fries when you run at max temp. It just does. It will be usable the first few times you go there most likely, but then it gets crispy and as soon as it leaks a little it will go quick. The good news is a new high-temp gasket is very easy to put on and a lot of experienced owners put one on before they do their first cook. Now if you don't make pizzas or otherwise do insane high-heat temps on the grill, the factory gasket will last for years and years.

We just had our Medium BGE moved from one house to another (No way I can move that thing on my own). Wanted to cry when they opened the door on the truck -- the base was destroyed..... :sad angel:

When I lifted the lid on the egg, both the fire box and fire ring were cracked.....

Called the local BGE dealer, and apparently replacement parts total cost is nearly what it costs to buy a new one.....

We are still working things out with the mover (a family friend we've done a lot of work with).

We had planned to keep the medium and eventually add an extra large. Question for the whiz's --- would it make sense to replace the base and use the cracked firebox and fire rings???

To the OP, I can tell you that I do wish we'd have purchased at least a large, if not an X-Large from the start. I can only fit 2 racks of ribs on it (and I have to cut each rack in half), and the v-rack only fits in the egg when inverted for ribs....

Now that you have decided on the Primo -- I just saw where a dealer on Beal is selling BGEs at dealer cost as he is getting out of the biz.

No shit! It's that place I swore I'd never set foot in again, after he pissed me off for the umpteenth time.

Maybe I'll have to reconsider.

Do you know how much less he is selling them for than normal prices?

I'm really considering this:

Big Green Egg (Dealer Cost)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Going out of business. My loss is your gain.
Xtra Large Big Green Egg $710.00
Large Big Green Egg $530.00
Medium Big Green Egg $405.00
Small Big Green Egg $350.00

Man. That's a REALLY good price. That's $240 less than the XL Primo grill ... Vs the XL BGE.

Which one are you considering?
